Vol. 2 Issue 1

2018

In my home we have multiple television sets
and they all run on different news cycles
you can hear them all at the same time in my house
yelling and spitting
on another day, it’s the silent hum of indecision -
white noise of absent static
the screens walk out the door and begin spitting
they continue to yell at another

we’re allowed to pay for silence though in my house
with our brains wrapped in cellophane
blood thick like oil
in my house the lights are connected to my pulse
and they flicker to the hum of my desire

we breathe our legacy full of pollutants and
particles of pride in my house

it’s eminent don’t you hear the repeated sounds
of collapse approaching

try not to choke on the air we breathe

because it’s always the summer of ’84
the best movie of the year
the greatest performance of a lifetime
the most badass motherfucker
to ever live in my house

we coddle the youngest and the richest
the world has ever seen on television
you shouldn’t believe it, but it’s the most amazing thing

it’s breathtaking
it’s beautiful, and great again

and it could be yours
in my house, for a price.
